TAG! Gingerbread-man

With every order, hand-made love!
That's right peeps, EVERY order!

I've sent out MANY tags the last couple weeks, and with the 12 Tags starting up (what does the count down app say???), I'll have MORE MORE MORE....
This little man is going to Whitefish Bay Wisconsin!

He's made from the Gingerbread Alterations Die by, come on, say it with me, Tim Holtz!
Embossed with the Christmas Background and Borders Texture Fade set.

On Core'dinations Cardstock in Antique Linen, and inked with Broken Twig Distress Ink...

His little features are made with Enamels by Ranger Ink.

The music paper is from Tim's District Market Tissue Wrap

Suppose you'd like to know how I did the very cool background...
That is a tag, dry brushed with Gesso. Once, dry I inked it with Festive Berries Distress Ink, spritzed with water, wiped and dried. Then I smooshed it into Heritage Gold Perfect Pearls that were misted onto my craft sheet.

The tissue tape on the bottom is by Cavalinni, I bought it at Artist and Display!

Uber kewl!

Bleached bottle brush trees and wreaths!

I read this Artful Affirmations blog. here's a link to her YouTube Video ! There are some beautiful projects on her site, I'm just warning you....

These are more white than green.
Dumb camera phone.....

AND, the picture IS rightside up in the camera!
Any ideas? Blogger doesn't let me rotate. HELLO BLOGGER......

I used a 3 to 1 ratio of bleach to water in a glass jar..
Set the green trees into the mix.
It takes about 5 minutes to strip the color.
Rinse and dry.

These can be colored with Color Wash and Mists to match your project. I'll be doing that next.

Amazing how the bows stay red....

Imagine your art, all done in soft whites, snow, gold or silver, with these trees or wreaths?

I see yet another day of NOT getting other things done........

Tag SOAR

With Artistic Outpost and Tim Holtz! As soon as I saw the Carved Ornaments #2 Alterations Die, I KNEW it was a Hot Air Balloon!

Did you see that too?

Many of Tim's dies when rotated or looked at just a little differnt, can be used in a way other than intended! And THAT'S what make them so special.

I bought the French Flight Set from AO, and was anxious to use it. A great set, with steampunk appeal! Love the flying machines!

The balloon is cut from Kraft Resist Paper Stack and colored with Broken China Distress Stain.
I attached some Martha Stewart twill (this is really for baking, but many of the kitchen "TOOLS" have been upgraded to use in the studio)!

The TAGS, background was created using Peel Paint Distress Stain on my craft sheet, spritz with water & dragged and dabbed through the ink. There was some residual Pewter Radiant Rain on the sheet, that added a cool shimmer. I inked the bare spots and edges with Tea Dye Distress Ink.

The guy in the balloon basket was inked with Archival Black. I went over it with Sepia Accents (no longer available) I made 'sand bags' from Kraft Glassine paper run through an embossing folder.

The letters for SOAR came from a sticker stash from Tim Holtz. Sanded then inked with Sepia Accents.

Tag PEACE

The back ground on this tag is done with a stencil from The Crafters Workshop, Distress Ink and Solar Gold Radiant Rain.

The image is from a collage sheet from Altered Pages called Christmas Angels.

A gold doily, Die cut Banner (Tim's Alteration die) and stamped with music.

The word PEACE was stamped from a Hampton Arts stamp.

I lightly coated the image with Rock Candy Stickles for a bit of shimmer!

And, HELLO RANGER, if you're reading my blog, can Rock Candy Stickles be made in a larger VAT?

Please?

Embossed overlay

This tag is off to merry old England. OK, somewhere in the UK. I'm bad at geography, and that is one big island!

The snowman is cut from the Winter Wonder Alterations die by Tim Holtz, The Snowflurry Texture Fade was used to impress the platic packaging with the snow flakes.

DON'T throw away the packaging from your BIGZ dies!
1, you can cut them up and emboss them. 2, you can use them for storing your cut pieces! Brilliant, I know.

The tag was inked with Broken China Distress Stain and flicked with water to lift some of the color. Love that technique....

Snowflakes were stamped on the tag with White Brilliance Ink, then dusted with Perfect Pearls.

Winged girl

I've always loved this stamp...

Tim hasn't used the winged people in quite a while in his online work...

And the quote IMAGINATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KNOWLEDGE, has always been one of my favorites.

So is "Somedays, it's just not worth chewing through the restraints", but I have yet to see that come alive in rubber.....

This tag features Kraft Glassine paper, and some stamps from Tattered Angels as well as Stampers Anonymous. And the cool leaf pick? Maya Road! They do have awesome embellishments!

Tag vintage german scraps

This is another one of those backgrounds that started off with as a WHOLE different idea...

Tag is embossed using the Retro Rays Texture Fade and inked with Festive Berries and Orange Persimmon Limited Edition Distress Inks.

I sprized my craft sheet with Solar Gold Radiant Rain, and dragged the embossed tag through the spritz puddles.

The Santa is some Vintage German Scrap bought at Artist and Display. They ahve a great selection, if your looking!

The music piece is die cut from the Banners Alterations Die, inked and coated with Multi-medium for support & a bit of shine.

I added a bottle brush tree and some berries at the top.

BELIEVE is stamped from Tim's Christmas Silhouettes stamp and cut out, inked and 'sparkle-ized' with some Martha glitter.

Tag stencil & modling paste

This tag was more about the background.
I used a stencil from The Crafters Workshop along with Golden modeling paste.

After the paste dried, I spritzed it with Periwinkle Radiant Rain and used Distress ink in Broken China to fill in the gaps and smooth out the inking.

I cut cardstock using the Carved Ornaments #2 Alterations die. I inked it with Weathered wood and oversprayed it with Pewter Radian Rain. Then adhered an image from Altered Pages that I had inked Vintage Photo on the edges. It's also coated with Rock Candy Stickles. The finished piece has Vintage Mica Flakes surrounding the image.

And the boing-y things?
Some AWESOME 'tinsel' I found at Steins at the end of last year!

Tag masking

This was done using a mask over the focal image.

This allowed me to ink around the image, and preserve the manilla color of the tag underneath the image. Also a small area around the image.

I stamped the main image with Jet Black Archival ink and heat set it.

I stamped & cut a second image from scrap paper to use as my mask.

The image is from Tim Holtz, one of the Christmas Mini Cling mount sets.
Using Distress Inks in Broken China, Faded Jeans and Vintage Photo, I inked the background. Snowflake Stamps were used to add some detail to the background. All the while, the 'mask' is over the main image to avoid inking over it.

Masking is not new.
It's been around for AGES. We just 'forget' to do it!

The image was accented with Enamel Inks by Ranger in black & white, and Distress inks in Festive Berries and Peeled Paint.

An easy, quick and fun project!

Tag Santa

I was inspired by the cool tag my friend Maggi did, using the Limited Edition Distress Inks and Rays stamp for this tag.

OK I CONFESS!

I stoled this concept of using the rays stamp from Maggi!!!

I really have to give that craft sheet a good cleaning as that Pewter Radiant rain is showing up everwhere!

But she didn't post it to her blog, so who stole from who?
PHEW, I feel better already!

Stamps, Banner Alterations Die, Distress inks by Tim Holtz

Thank you Maggi for the inspiration. Might want to update that blog and show off your fabulous work.....

And she did! see it here From the Art Grotto

I can add to this, but it does seem a BIT overwhelming to those I've emailed the list to! SO, we'll see what Mr. Holtz has in store for us!!!

Keep in mind a couple things:

1) NO ONE can have everything put out by or used by Tim. Well, ok I know a couple of you that strive for that, but most of us don't. So don't try it. You'll just get in trouble with your significant other or credit card company.

2) IMPROVISE! Take a good look around your crafting area and see what you can substitute!

3) Many people don't follow the holiday theme, but choose to follow the techniques and make a non-seasonal tag. Brilliant! It's YOUR art. Do with it as you wish!

4) ENJOY the process! Have fun and be creative! There's enough stress around the holidays! Make these 12 days YOU time!

Tagfest continues....

Dies and ink and stains and images and modeling paste, stamps and stencils and...

This one started out as a tag with modeling paste over a Crafters Workshop stencil. NOTE TO SELF: ink tag before applying modeling paste. OR add pigment to the modeling paste. Not a necessity, just something different to try.

I had gotten out my palette knife and paste and just did up a bunch of tags at one time. A great way to add some texture!
WHICH btw, did you know there is a 'clinical' name for texture addicts?

Thank you Mr. DeMeng for putting a name to my issue......

This image, I just love! I'll have to find the artist/source to give proper credit. I did alter it in PSE with snowfakes, but that was a year ago, and well, I forget.... It is covered with Rock Candy Stickles!

The big blue snowflake behind the tag is from Sizzix. After applying the modling paste and allowing it to dry, I inked the tag with Distress Ink in Broken China and Stormy Sky the heat set. Next sprayed the whole thing with Pewter Radiant Rain, let setup a bit then heat set. It gave a really nice shimmer! The snowflake in the back is done in the same manner, then cut in 1/2 and adhered to the back.

The silver tinsel garland is from Target last year. I LOVE what happens when I hit it with my heat gun.....

This tag is done again with modling paste and the tree bark stencil from Crafter's Workshop.

I inked the tag with Twig Distress Ink, and oversprayed it with Copper mist.

The ornament is a Sizzix die, stamped with acrylic gold Dabber over a Peeled Paint Distress Stain.

And NOEL is a new Tim Holtz die, cut out of a heavy glitter paper  by Recollections. This stuff has great weight, so dosn't need to be propped with another layer for support!

And it's 'sparklelishous!'

Which you could see here IF blogger would JUST ALLOW me to rotate the image (it is right in my camera phone).... frustrating. Just please tilt to the left until I correct this....

This tag uses the BRICKS stencil and modling paste. I wanted it to look like a framed picture over a fireplace.

How'd I do?

The image is from a Christmas collage sheet from Altered Pages.

The 'mantel' was done using Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint.
The 'wallpaper' is stamped with one of Tim Holtz' new Christmas Silhouette stamps, and outlined with a Sharpie White poster paint pen.

Finished off with holly garland, German Scraps I got at Artist and Display and mica!
